Joe Root Could Surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s Record of 100 International Centuries, Says Michael Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has made a bold prediction about current captain Joe Root. Vaughan believes that Root has the potential to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries if he continues to play for another 8-10 years.

Root has been in excellent form recently, scoring a double century against Sri Lanka in January 2021 and leading England to a 3-1 series victory over India in February and March 2021. He currently has 20 Test centuries and 16 ODI centuries to his name.

Speaking to the media, Vaughan said, “If Joe Root plays for another 8-10 years, I think he’ll break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international hundreds. He’s got the potential, he’s got the fitness, he’s got the hunger, he’s got the desire.”

However, Vaughan also acknowledged that achieving this feat would not be easy. “It’s a tough ask, but if anyone can do it, Joe Root can,” he said. “He’s got to stay fit, he’s got to stay hungry, he’s got to keep scoring runs.”

Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, scored 100 international centuries during his illustrious career, which spanned from 1989 to 2013. He scored 51 Test centuries and 49 ODI centuries, and is the only player to have achieved this feat.

Root, who made his international debut in 2012, has already established himself as one of the best batsmen in the world. He has scored over 8,000 runs in Test cricket at an average of 50.3, and over 6,000 runs in ODIs at an average of 50.4.

If Root does manage to surpass Tendulkar’s record, it would be a remarkable achievement and cement his place as one of the all-time greats of the game.
